Google Ads (formerly known as Google AdWords) delivers your sales message to people at the exact moment they’re searching in Google for what you’re selling.  Those people are actively looking for a business like yours, and Google Ads directs them to your website so you have the opportunity of getting their enquiries.

Basic Overview

A basic overview of how text ad campaigns work:

  • Google Ads enables your business to place its ad at the top of Google for searches that are most relevant to your business.
  • When searchers see your ad, and like your message, they click on it and are sent to a relevant page of your website (a click fee is incurred by Google at that point, hence the term; pay per click or PPC).
  • When those people land on your website, you want them to make an enquiry – your website needs to make it easy for people, and encourage people, to make an enquiry with you via the phone, email, or enquiry form.
  • When these enquiries come into the business, you have the opportunity of converting them into actual customers.

Quality Score

The algorithm that decides what position your ad will appear in as well as how much you will pay per click is based heavily on Quality Score.  Quality Score is a score from 1-10.  Google scores your campaigns according to how well it thinks you’ve set them up and how well you manage them.

The key to Quality score is relevancy.  Your ads not only need excellent copy to entice people to click on them, they need to be super-relevant to what the searchers are searching for, and they need to take people to a page on your website which is also super-relevant to, and focused on, the search query.
