Remarketing is one of the most effective forms of paid advertising. Advertisers see click through rates almost 10x that of normal display advertising and users that click on these remarketing ads are 70% more likely to convert.

If you are advertising online you should definitely consider remarketing.

Remarketing allows you to advertise directly to those people who have visited your website before and are familiar with your brand.

How does it work?

When a user visits your site a cookie is dropped and they are added to your remarketing list. You can create multiple remarketing lists to capture all different types of customer. So you might want to target users who have looked at a particular category page and not bought or you might want to target those customers who have abandoned their shopping cart at the checkout page.

Once you have populated your remarketing lists with enough users (usually around 1,000) you can start targeting them with specifically tailored ads.

The Google Display Network stretches out over 2 million websites and as users are browsing the web, your ads can be shown to them.

When a user sees your ad, they are reminded of the product they researched or nearly bought, and are encouraged to come back and complete the purchase.

You can also combine your Google Shopping campaigns with these remarketing lists to create Dynamic Remarketing campaigns. Dynamic remarketing uses the product feed that you have uploaded to Google Merchant Centre for your Google shopping campaigns to enable you to target people who have looked at a particular product and not completed a purchase. You can then target them with a specific ad featuring the exact product they were looking at on your website. Conversion rates for Dynamic Remarketing campaigns are even higher than for the normal remarketing campaigns.

As well as using the Google Display Network to remarket to your customers, you can implement RLSA (Remarketing Lists for Search Ads) campaigns. RLSA campaigns enable you to target your text ads to people searching on Google who have already visited your website. By targeting your text ads to previous visitors of your website you are able to optimise your bids on keywords for these users who are more likely to convert.
